The story behind the cloth
Thirlmere,in every thread.
Inspired by the deep, still waters of Thirlmere reservoir, our Thirlmere tweed reflects a landscape shaped by both nature and human endeavour.
Once a series of natural lakes, Thirlmere was transformed into a reservoir during the Victorian era to supply water to the growing city of Manchester. Today, this connection between the Lake District fells and the city continues to flow.
Originally developed as a woven throw, the design has been refined by Curlew Fabric Design to create a versatile tweed that captures the colours and character of the landscape. It is also available in a timeless herringbone weave.
Made from 100% British wool, our Thirlmere tweed is naturally durable, breathable and flame resistant. Tested to 30,000 Martindale rubs, it is a versatile fabric for clothing, upholstery, soft furnishings and accessories.
From fleece to finished cloth, every stage of processing takes place within 100 miles of the farm, supporting British farmers and our regional textile industry. Designed by Curlew Fabric Design and woven in the North West of England.
