Ullswater Tweed

The story behind the cloth

Ullswater,in every thread.

This is a cloth rooted in a living landscape, shaped not just by nature, but by careful stewardship.

The design, originally developed by the Lancs & Lakes Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers, reflects the textured richness of a restored meadow. It has been simplified for cloth, and is also available as a plain herringbone — softly raised on one side for a blanket-like feel.

This tweed blends sturdy, characterful Herdwick wool from James and Helen Rebanks of Racy Ghyll Farm with bouncy Whitefaced Woodland fleece from Sam and Candida Hodgson at neighbouring Glencoyne Farm — both in the Ullswater valley.

Designed by Curlew Fabric Design and woven in the North West of England, this cloth is made from 100% British wool - renewable, biodegradable, and recyclable. A true reflection of place, craft, and care.

Sold by the metre. Approximately 150cm wide.
